Walking for a Cause: The First Annual NJ Construction Hike for Hope

This past weekend, SkillSignal joined hundreds of others from across the New Jersey construction industry for the first annual NJ Construction Hike for Hope, an event raising money and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

We were proud to support it and glad to be part of the day.

Anyone in this industry understands why an event like this matters. Construction has one of the highest suicide rates of any profession, and far too many of us have felt its impact firsthand.

Bringing people together to walk, talk, and stand alongside others who understand is a meaningful step toward changing that.

The turnout spoke for itself.

More than 260 people came out, and together they raised over $65,000, a remarkable result for a first-year event and a clear sign of how much this community wanted to show up for the cause.

Our sincere thanks go to Barbra Brennan and Chris Lalevee, who created this event and brought everyone together for something that matters.

Their work made the entire day possible.

We’re also grateful to Local 825 for their hospitality and for helping make everyone feel so welcome.

The date for next year is already set for May 16th, 2027, and we look forward to returning.

If this is a conversation you want to bring to your own crew, SkillSignal offers a collection of free toolbox talks focused on mental health and fitness, ready to use whenever you need them.
