Contractors Express Strong Optimism For 2025

Despite global and domestic economic uncertainty around everything from interest rates to impending tariffs, optimism in the construction industry remains high. We recently surveyed dozens of general contractors and subcontractors to understand their outlook for 2025 and their business priorities for the year. Overwhelmingly, respondents said they were “very confident” or “extremely confident” about hitting their targets in 2025.

When asked about their safety priorities for the year to come,

the bulk of those surveyed claimed either reducing onsite injuries and accidents or increasing the involvement of their leadership teams as top of their list in 2025. The latter response was echoed in the biggest safety challenges respondents identified, with a majority identifying internal resistance to change as the biggest roadblock to improving safety culture, followed closely by the well-documented labor shortage in the trades.

NEW YORK, N.Y., Sept. 13, 2018, 8 a.m., EDT SkillSignal LLC, a New York-based tech company founded by Sebastien de Ghellinck, released an innovative application for the Construction industry, and is currently serving Contractors, Construction Companies, and Construction Workers.

The free SkillSignal app is available in 6 languages, and is accessible for Construction Workers to download on any smartphone. It securely captures professional profile information and certifications in compliance with the NY Department of Buildings latest safety regulations. Its intuitive interface serves as a unique safety and communication hub, pushing personalized training and alerts. The end-to-end encrypted application protects personal data and is GDPR/California compliant.

Time & attendance information is captured with a clock-in/clock-out functionality, for accountability of workers on site. The cloud-based functionality provides Contractors with critical workforce analytics on individual workers and subcontractors. Automatic alerts and reminders are set for expired certificates, weather alerts, and DOB safety rule reminders in multiple languages. The application also offers documentation management for Subcontractors, to avoid expired policies and make certifications management much easier.

SkillSignal promotes compliance with the NY Department of Buildings (DOB), in order to avoid costly violations and fines. With an announcement on May 9, 2018, “DOB’s Commissioner Rick Chandler pushes for increased safety training requirements for many of the city’s construction workers”.

Local Law 196 of 2017, called for the DOB to develop the training requirements in consultation with a Site Safety Training Task Force. “When fully phased in 2019, workers at job sites are required to have 40 hours of safety training with SST card issuance. This includes Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents and competent persons”.

If the DOB discovers that workers at a construction site are untrained, they will issue a violation with civil penalties that go as high as $5,000 per untrained worker to the owner of the site, the permit holder and the employer of the untrained worker. SkillSignal is the only available application designed for workers, and giving general contractors control over safety and risk.

SkillSignal is now available for download on Apple Appstore and Google Play. Visit www.skillsignal.com to learn more.
